Interaction Workshop on Spectrum of Violence against Women in Nepal

Remarks :

 SIRF along with SAP International organized a one day workshop on “Spectrum of Violence against Women in Nepal”. The program aims: i) to sensitize the opinion of leaders to challenge and change the existing social and individual attitudes that accept violence against women as ‘normal’; ii) to generate the critical discourse on violence against women in domestic/private sphere and in workplace/public sphere; and iii) to identify issues and research agenda of violence against women especially in public sphere. The participants of the program were women right activist, representative of INGOs and NGOs, Lawyers, Politician, Journalist and other stakeholders. The program started with welcome remark and brief highlight on program by Mohan Das Manandhar, Senior Adviser of SRF.

The program has four sessions focusing four different theme of Women Violence.

The first session of the program titled “Violence against Women in Politics” was facilitated by Dr. Rohit Kumar Nepali; Executive Director of SAP International. The panel discussants of this session were: Former Deputy Speaker Ms. Chitra Lekha Yadav; Former Foreign Minister Ms. Sahana Pradhan; Ms. Jayapuri Gharti, Leader of Unified CPN Maoist; and Ms. Ram Kumari Jhakri, President of AAFSU.
